Not every tree and shrub you could buy, just the best, most problem-solving and beautiful ones. Practical advice from a landscape pro and photos that reveal each plant’s charm, accurately portray what they look like and show how real-life gardeners across the country have used them in home landscapes. The subtitle says it all.
Having grown up roaming the Connecticut woods, I thought I knew trees – until I was asked to photograph The Homeowner’s Complete Tree and Shrub Handbook. During the two years I practically lived in my car chasing peak bloom in landscapes all over the country, I developed an enormous appreciation for trees and shrubs in all their glorious diversity. The book has become my own go-to reference and inspiration – Every time I need to solve a particular problem, just the right plant seems to jump out at me as I browse through the pages.
“The clean crisp photography by Karen Bussolini – be it of the exquisite curling bark of a paperbark maple (Acer griseum). An uphill woodland path in three seasons, or an arborist in full-helmeted gear 20 feet up in a tree – reinforces the comprehensive treatment of the subject.”
